Squirrel and Squirrel

My mother, the kind-hearted soul she is, maintains a wild sanctuary of her own in her beautiful yard and garden in Portland, Oregon.

Whenever I visit I love to watch the squirrels who frequent her yard.  They put on quite the show filled with amazing feats of death-defying do and  crazy antics that make me laugh and delight me to no end.

Two squirrels in particular like to hang out and have adopted the place.  They love it here!  They like to chase each other through the branches of a tall Lilac tree and scamper back and forth along the back fence and straight for the feeder stocked with enough squirrel goodies to keep the pair fat and happy and coming back for more.

I have always held a special affinity for squirrels. I admire their pluck and determination.  These little guys have guts. Any animal that can coexist with us human animals must have something going for it and being so darn cute doesn’t hurt either.
